THE HISTORY
Afiq first started had a taste of kart racing in 2006 with one of th Afiq participated in the Junior Category with the Swiss Hutless Asia Pacific team, participating in the Rotax Max Challenge 2007, Asia & Malaysia Series. After only 2 rounds of the Asia Rotax Max Challenge he won his first podium ever by finishing 3rd in Kolhapur, India. This was the beginning of a fine run for Afiq as he finished on the podium in all his races barring his race in Surabaya where he suffered from a racing incident. Afiq was recognised for his string of strong performances an was awarded with the “Asia Rotax Max Challenge Rookie of The Year 2007” award. This award allowed him to qualify for a seat in the Rotax Max World Finals in Al-Ain, United Arab Emirates. Following a successful rookie Junior campaign in 2007, Afiq’s moved up to the Senior Category in 2008. Not one to be intimidated by other racers, he showed his maturity and mettle by finishing the Asia & Malaysia Rotax Max Challenge (RMC) Championships as the 3rd overall winner. This season also saw his first championship race win with his Rotax engine in the Formula 125 Open Category of the AAM/KKS Malaysia karting Championship. It was also in 2008, Afiq was selected to join the Petronas Formula Experience (PFX) Driver Development Program conducted at the Sepang Formula 1 Circuit by BMW motorsports professionals. He left a lasting impression on the trainers by finishing all the 4 school races on the podium and achieving 3 fastest laps. The 2009 season was also a great one for Afiq, having won 4 out of 6 races of the season. A clean sweep of 4 wins was only prevented because of a disqualification and a DNF due to an incident. Afiq was also the first Malaysian to have won kart races in Indonesia. Due to his impressive performance, he was selected to represent Malaysia to the Rotax Max World Finals 2009 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt in the DD2 Category and qualified top 20 in the world. In 2010 Afiq was crowned as the Rotax Max Challenge Malaysia & Asia Champion, 2010 after having 4 wins in the bag out of 6 races. He represented Malaysia for the World Final in Italy and qualify top 19. In 2010 also, he was awarded by Team Meritus-GP with a corporate shcolarship to compete in the Formula BMW Pacific 2010. The award was given after the team believe that he is a championship material. The award was presented to Afiq by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in March, 2010.
